Investment in Kyulux, Inc.

Innovation Kyoto 2016 Investment Limited Partnership ("KYOTO-icap No.1 Fund"), with Kyoto University Innovation Capital Corporation ("Kyoto iCAP") (Head office: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director: Koji Murota) as unlimited liability partner, has made an investment in Kyulux Co. ("Kyulux") (Head office: Nishi-ku, Fukuoka; Representative Director: Junji Adachi), a venture company that utilizes the results of research at Kyoto University.

Outline of this investment
Kyulux is a venture company that develops, manufactures, and sells TADF (Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescence), a light-emitting material for OLED, which was successfully developed for the first time in the world by Professor Chihaya Adachi of Kyushu University. TADF is the third generation of light-emitting materials for OLED, and is expected to be a light-emitting material that solves the problems of low luminous efficiency, high cost, and the use of rare precious metals, which were the problems of first-generation fluorescent materials and second-generation phosphorescent materials.

In addition, Kyulux has developed a fourth-generation luminescent material, HF (Hyperfluorescence), which combines the principles of fluorescent materials and TADF.TMHF is expected to be put to practical use as a next-generation OLED light-emitting material because it can solve the problem of TADF of low color purity due to the wide half-width of the emission spectrum in many cases and can further improve luminous efficiency.

Kyulux has been collaborating with Professor Hironori Kaji of the Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, on the molecular design and device performance enhancement of novel TADF materials. We continue to actively support Kyulux in its efforts to implement the results of joint research between Kyoto University and Kyushu University in society.

Kyoto iCAP decided to invest in Kyulux because of the potential for practical application of research results generated by Kyoto University, and because the reduction of environmental impact through heavy metal-free technology is consistent with the spirit of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). In a co-investment with WRVI Capital GP III, LLC, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Corporation, Golden Asia Fund Ventures Ltd, Motion Hightech Co. Ltd. and Shijo Co., Ltd. in a third-party allotment of approximately ¥0.66 billion in total.
